Hunting and Fishing at Martin State Forest
Three popular lakes for fishing:
- Martin Lake (3 acres)
- Hardwood Lake (4 acres)
- Pine Lake (3 acres)
Many species of fish are known to inhabit these waters, such as channel catfish, bluegill and largemouth bass, as well as crappie.
Boat motors are limited to electric trolling motors only. Swimming is not permitted in any of the lakes.
Martin State Forest offers impressive hunting opportunities; look for whitetail deer, turkey, gray squirrel, ruffed grouse, quail, rabbit and raccoon.

Hunting and Fishing at West Boggs Lake
West Boggs Lake, at 625 acres, offers an excellent opportunity for recreational and competitive fishing. The fishery is managed with the assistance of the Indiana Department of Natural Resources.
Species stocked include Bass, Bluegill, Crappie and Channel Catfish. Recent creel surveys and fishery analysis indicate healthy and productive populations of these species.
State regulations apply to fishing activity at West Boggs Park in addition to a 14 inch minimum size limit for Bass. There is no motor size limit, but the following local regulations are strictly enforced.
- Speed limit on the lake is 35 Miles per hour.
- Direction of travel is counterclockwise, keeping the near shore on the right at all times.
- Every bay and inlet is an idle, no wake zone.
A three lane launch ramp and fish cleaning station are available for use by visitors. Resident and Non-Resident fishing licenses, bait and tackle are available at nearby retail outlets.
Open hunting is limited to waterfowl only in designated areas of the property. Other hunting and/or trapping, is limited to special permits which may be issued for management purposes.
